Arezzo

This church, Basilica di San Francesco, houses a fresco cycle - Legend of the True Cross - by Piero della Francesca. It is his masterpiece. We had to return later for the tour. You can only see his cycle by tour, and half of it is covered up for restoration.
Michael noted that when a church couldn't afford to decorate the front of their building, they would do this sripey effect - and because of this construction, it made it easier to add a decorative facade when the church had enough money.
