Our little munchkin decided to wait until the very last second before entering the world. Our doctors (Dr. Rhee and Dr. Lee) let us go the full two weeks post-date before scheduling an induction, despite an ultrasound estimate of 10 lbs 4 oz. The guesstimated size risked us out of the Birthing Center at Roosevelt Hospital and we were scheduled to go in on Sunday, June 15th at 4pm to be induced. This, as some of you may know, was Michael's birthday. We spent the last week walking up and down the Upper West Side of Manhattan, eating spicy foods, using primrose oil... you name it, we tried everything to get the baby to come out. Nothing worked. And then on Saturday night, the day before we were supposed to be induced, contractions slowly began! We went for a long walk (and to get an ice cream cone). Once we returned home, upon the advice of our labor doula, Cynthia (she's amazing!) Andee took a bath, had a drink and we went to bed for a couple of hours. Andee got up twice throughout the night to breathe through the contractions. Finally, at about 5:00am on Michael's birthday, she woke him up and asked him to help her time the contractions. As you can see from the picture above, Michael has his stopwatch around his neck. We decided he should open his presents early. He got to rip through his packages at 7:00am. Behold - the rod carrying case strapped across his chest!
