Our second walking tour took us to a less-touristy area. Cannaregio and the Ghetto. It's more of a real neighborhood that fills the everyday needs of the inhabitants. It was pretty exciting. At the heart of Cannaregio is the Ghetto, which was "originally set on a walled island whose gates and bridges to the rest of the city would be closed and locked every night." (Frommer's)
We came across this beautiful old building, the Ca' da Mosto. It's one of the oldest and greatest houses on the Grand Canal. Later in it's life, it was turned into a hotel, and it's original identity was lost in the passing. It only recently came to light again in the 19th Century.
