San Gimignano

San Gimignano pics

In between this section and the first section, we made day trips to Siena and Arezzo. This was our last day in San Gimignano before leaving for Florence, and we decided to take a walking tour into the countryside.
But first, I must relate the story of our return from Arezzo. Now, throughout our public transportation outings, no one ever checked for our tickets. We wondered how that system works. It seems that they have surprise checks, cause on our bus back to San Gimignano, a ticket checker got on and actually set someone off the bus for not having his ticket. I felt sorry for him, though. He was out in the middle of nowhere and it was raining. Then our troubles got worse. First off, our bus left at a different time. Friday gives an entirely new schedule to the bus schedule we had. And our driver took a short little detour through a town which made us exactly two minutes late for our connecting bus. We were stuck for an hour and a half. And it was raining. By the time we decided we should eat, we didn't have enough time. So we grabbed a slice of pizza. But it was after 8pm and all the stores were closed. Nothing to do except wander into a video game arcade. Michael was feeling computer deprivation. He would play Game Boy for hours, and any time we passed a place that sold games, he would look back longingly. The same went for video arcades. He was overjoyed that we got to spend some time in this one. Even though we didn't stay for too long. We got back to San Gimignano pretty late and went straight to dinner. It was incredible. We had Wild Boar pate (wild boar is yummy) and I had roasted guinea fowl, Michael got stuffed lamb. We had a delicious truffle appetizer. They even had pigeon on the menu! A new delicacy I'd like to suggest to all the finest NYC restaurants. Hee, hee.
